Cultivating Growth in the Garden of your Mind

Welcome!

Relationships are at the heart of life, but they can also be where we experience pain. With the right support, however, they can become places of healing.

In a safe, confidential, and accepting space, we’ll explore why you’re seeking counselling and work together toward your goals. If you’re unsure of your goals, that’s okay—sometimes just talking can help you discover them.

About Me

Hi I’m Joan Alexander, integrative counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) based in and around the Essex area. Relationships are the heartbeat of life, but they frequently become places where we are wounded. However, through good nourishing therapy, they become the places in which healing can occur.

I believe that within the boundaries of an accepting and confidential relationship, we can explore your reasons for seeking counselling and the goals you want to achieve. You may come without goals but talking with an attentive counsellor, you may identify one or more.  As an empathetic counsellor, I invite you into a warm, safe space, one where you are heard and understood, one in which we can work together.

As an integrative counsellor, I work relationally using a psychodynamic-humanistic model – so within our developing relationship we explore the ‘back then’ to understand how the past affects your present life in the moment and ‘out there’ in the world. This may help you to view your issues differently and help you make new choices allowing you to feel better about yourself.

I have experience working with people of different ethnicities, cultures, faiths, disabilities, genders and age. I work with issues such as general anxiety disorder, stress, low self-esteem, shame, adverse childhood events, abandonment, loss, bereavement and relationship issues. I am a qualified teacher of 30+ years’ experience and have worked extensively identifying safeguarding issues within schools. My experience also covers domestic violence using trauma focused counselling.

The work that I do is regularly supervised to ensure the highest standard of care. I offer sessions in-person, online or over the telephone and would be pleased to hear from you if you are interested in making contact.

Sessions are £55. Concessionary rates are available for students. Flexible hours are available.

I look forward to hearing from you.
